Jake Kilroy
Contrary to popular belief, Jake Kilroy was not raised by handsome wolves. Instead, he was raised by his nuclear family to lead a radioactive life in Orange County. Kilroy graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a degree in print journalism and a minor in political science. You may know him from fancy dinner parties in your area. He’s most often the only one to bring licorice to such gala events.
With an affinity for pet projects (due to either a busy schedule or a short attention span), Kilroy formed The Bloodlit Stars, a hip pop rocktronica band/experiment, and ran the now-defunct website Fake Book Covers when bored at his magazine job. And, under the alias “Illroy,” he took a turn as a lyric junkie MC in The New Kissing Techniques, an indie rock hip-hop outfit alongside fellow Automaton City blogger Christopher Heard.
Kilroy is currently working on a demo of songs he wrote as a lethargic singer/songwriter, once described as “Billy Bragg if he were raised in the Badlands, only drank whiskey, never really cared if he learned guitar or not and had a bone to pick with the world.”
Already an award-winning reporter and columnist, Kilroy recently became a published poet. His poetry has been featured in Decomp Magazine, Counterexample Poetics and Visions.
Aside from writing, Kilroy also enjoys Christmas lights, jacuzzis, board games, old movies, fireplaces, road trips, bike rides, romance, wit and adventure.
And one time, Kilroy totally thought he saw Humphrey Bogart’s ghost, but it just turned out to be some guy at Subway. An honest mistake.
Jake Kilroy decided to be a writer at 16. So far, so good.
